SAN DIEGO¬†— A motorcyclist died on Friday evening after he was hit by a semitruck as he made repairs to his bike.

The 72-year-old man was standing in the street at 8300 La Media Road in Otay Mesa, working on the sparkplugs of his Honda motorcycle, when a large semi with a 50-foot trailer made an “unsafe move to the right” and hit him, SDPD said.

The motorcyclist was run over, suffering fatal injuries. The truck driver remained at the scene, and police said that he was properly licensed and was not suspected of DUI.

The collision was reported around 5:30 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP issued a traffic alert, causing La Media Road to be shut down between state Route 905 and Airway Road.
