SAN DIEGO — A man was killed Wednesday morning in a fiery crash in Murphy Canyon, near Tierrasanta.
The crash was reported around 4:30 a.m. near the 4300 block Santo Road, according to the San Diego Police Department.
For reasons still under investigation, the man crashed his Mercedes sedan into a raised center median, then went head-on into a tree, SDPD Watch Commander Scott Foster said in a news release.
The crash caused the vehicle to catch fire and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The identity of the driver has not yet been publicly released.
Police closed Santo Road in both directions at Shields Street for their investigation.
No other vehicles were believed by police to have been involved and SDPD’s Traffic Division will be investigating the incident.
