SAN DIEGO — A crash involving a San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Blue Line trolley and pickup truck left a driver dead in the Barrio Logan neighborhood, authorities said.
The collision occurred around 9:24 p.m. when a male driver in a 1969 GMC truck was heading eastbound on Sampson Street, passing Harbor Drive. At that time, the trolley crossing arms went down, detecting a trolley approaching from the south, police said.
The male then drove into the westbound lanes to drive around the crossing arms and into the path of the trolley, which collided into the right side of truck. The vehicle, according to authorities, also impacted a pole on the left side of the trolley tracks.
The driver of the truck was pronounced deceased on the scene and has not been publicly identified at this time.
No injuries were reported from passengers on the trolley.
The San Diego Police Department Traffic Division is handling the investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
