NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — A 28-year-old San Diego man died early Monday in a rollover crash in National City, California Highway Patrol said.

The initial collision was reported shortly after 2 a.m. on southbound Interstate 805 north of Division Street, CHP Officer Salvador Castro said in a news release. The man was driving a Honda Civic when he collided with a Hyundai Elantra, Castro said. The driver of the Honda then lost control for unknown reasons, causing his vehicle to overturn down an embankment. He died at the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 21-year-old Chula Vista man, was not injured.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office was working to determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
