SAN DIEGO — Traffic was snarled up Monday for seven hours on Interstate 805 due to police activity in Mission Valley that led to the closures of southbound lanes and caused lengthy delays for travelers.

Heavy traffic remained in the area late Monday at I-805 over Interstate 8 after California Highway Patrol cleared the incident. Lane closures were announced by Caltrans San Diego about 2:30 p.m. after CHP reported activity in the area about an hour earlier.

SkyFOX flew over the area just after 4 p.m. and showed heavy traffic congestion as travelers were being detoured from the freeway to eastbound and westbound Interstate 8.

By 10:20 p.m., all lanes had reopened, according to Caltrans San Diego.
