OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Two people died Friday evening in a crash in Oceanside, police said.

Just after 5 p.m., a 2008 Toyota Scion XB traveling northbound drifted from its lane, struck a retaining wall and crashed into a fire hydrant near College Boulevard and Avenida Empresa, according to Oceanside police. Video from SkyFOX showed the vehicle rolled over onto its hood and resting in the northbound lanes of the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle was ejected in the crash, police said. Both the driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sgt. Adam Morales. Neither was publicly identified.

It is not yet known whether alcohol was a factor, Morales said. Police are investigating.

While investigators were at the scene, authorities closed College Boulevard from Mesa Drive to Old Grove Road. It since reopened to traffic.

Anyone with information on the crash was asked to call accident investigator David Paul at 760-435-4431.
