SAN DIEGO – Padres radio announcer Ted Leitner said Friday that he will no longer provide play-by-play radio coverage for the team after broadcasting 41 seasons.

Leitner said he will continue working as a team ambassador, representing the Padres at community appearances, speaking engagements and other events organized by the team.

“I will miss everything about the Padres broadcast that I have been privileged to be a part of for so many years,” Leitner said in a statement released by the team. “I’ve had the best seat in the house in San Diego for over four decades, and I’ve had the honor of working alongside Hall of Fame broadcasters while watching the greatest players to ever wear a Padres uniform.”

Leitner also broadcasts for the San Diego State University Aztecs football and basketball teams. He was honored as the 2020 California Co-Sportscast of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.

Leitner was sports anchor at San Diego CBS affiliate KFMB for 25 years until 2002.
