Gulls draw over 10,000 fans at Honda Center preseason game

SAN DIEGO — Kevin Roy and Andy Welinski both had a goal and an assist as the San Diego Gulls concluded their two-game preseason schedule by defeating the Ontario Reign, 4-1, Monday night in front of 10,214 fans at Honda Center in Anaheim.

Nick Tarnasky opened the scoring 92 seconds into the game off Roy’s assist. Roy scored a power-play game later in the first period to increase the Gulls lead to 2-0 before a crowd announced at 10,214. Admission and parking were free.

The Gulls took a 3-0 lead on Welinski’s goal with 5:45 left in the first period.

Justin Auger scored the lone goal for Ontario, the Los Angeles Kings American Hockey League affiliate, less than two minutes into the second period on the power play.

Stefan Noesen scored the Gulls final goal later in the second period.

Goaltender Dustin Tokarski made 32 saves for the Gulls, the Anaheim Ducks AHL affiliate.

Reign starting goaltender Peter Budaj stopped seven of the 11 shots he faced. He was replaced midway through the second period by Jack Campbell, who stopped all 19 shots he faced.

The Gulls will open the regular season Friday by facing the Tucson Roadrunners, the Arizona Coyotes AHL affiliate, at the Valley View Casino Center. They will play host to the Reign on Saturday. Click here for ticket information.
