VISTA, Calif. -- Two people were shot at a Vista home early Saturday morning, one of them fatally, sheriff's deputies said.

A caller told dispatchers around 6:40 a.m. that two people had been shot inside a home on Hartwright Road north of Valinda Way and one of the victims wasn't breathing, according to Lt. Rich Williams of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

“The caller said his parents had been shot," said Lt. Williams. “They went inside and found a man and a woman both with serious injuries. The woman was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene by medics and the man was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery."

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene with a traumatic wound, Williams said. The other victim, the male's injuries were severe, and his prognosis wasn't known.

Homicide detectives were investigating the shooting, Williams said, and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office was working to notify the woman's next of kin.

“Everyone in the home is accounted for. We’re not looking for any suspects. There’s no outstanding suspects in this case. There’s no danger to the community,” said Williams. “There will be some impact to traffic on this street while we process the scene but it should be kept to a minimum. We’d like anyone who heard or may have seen anything last night to please give us a call we’d appreciate the information.”
