CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Officers responding to an emergency call in a South Bay neighborhood Monday afternoon found two stabbing victims, one of whom died at the scene.

A man dialed 911 at an apartment in the 500 block of McIntosh Street in Chula Vista shortly after 2 p.m. and told a dispatcher he needed an ambulance, according to police.

Inside the residence, patrol and ambulance personnel found a man and woman who each had suffered several stabs wounds.

The female victim died at the scene. Medics took the man, who was conscious and able to speak, to a hospital, where he underwent surgery. Their names were not immediately available.

The circumstances of the assaults were unclear, though investigators were not looking for any outstanding suspects, police said.
