SAN DIEGO – A woman was injured Sunday night when she fell about 30 feet onto rocks at the bottom of Sunset Cliffs.

Someone called 911 before 9 p.m. after hearing the woman’s cries for help. Firefighter rigged ropes to bring her up to the roadway. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was recovering Monday morning.

Firefighters said the woman was walking along the cliffs when she apparently lost her footing and fell over the edge.

“There are areas that are marked that we want people to stay away from, and especially at night you can’t see the cliff’s edge easily, so it’s not safe to be out here,” a fire battalion chief said. “It’s definitely not safe to be out here by yourself. When you’re out here walking alone, you definitely have a higher risk than when you have a partner with you.”
