SAN DIEGO — A 57-year-old man was facing an attempted murder charge Tuesday after allegedly beating and stabbing a stranger in an apparently unprovoked attack in the Morena neighborhood.

Gregg Allen Taylor “suddenly and viciously attacked” the 59-year-old victim while she was getting out of her car on Morena Boulevard near Savannah Street around 5 a.m. Monday, San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said. Taylor allegedly beat the victim and stabbed her several times in the chest before walking away.

“No relationship or motivation between the suspect and victim has been determined,” Lasher said.

Responding officers were given a detailed description of the assailant and caught up to Taylor about three blocks away. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was subsequently booked into jail.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for non life-threatening stab wounds, Lasher said.
