SAN DIEGO – A Coast Guard boat rescued an 81-year-old woman from a cruise ship off the coast of La Jolla after she suffered a possible heart attack.
The crew of the Carnival Imagination contacted the San Diego Coast Guard station Monday at about 9 p.m. and reported that an elderly woman passenger was experiencing symptoms of a possible heart attack. The station sent a 45-foot boat out to the ship, which was about 33 miles west of La Jolla. The crew evacuated the woman, her husband and a nurse from the cruise ship and brought them back to San Diego.
The Coast Guard boat arrived in San Diego at about midnight, and the woman was taken by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital. Her condition was not immediately known.
