Wildfire under control in rural East County

SAN DIEGO — Firefighters were working to put out a vegetation fire in Campo near Interstate 8 and Old Highway 80 Sunday afternoon, Cal Fire said.

The fire had burned one acre by 1:30 p.m. Cal Fire said firefighters were able to stop the fire’s forward progress at about 1.5 acres around 2 p.m.

Cal Fire reported that the fire was 100% contained by 7 p.m. Sunday.

Though firefighters initially said the fire threatened structures in the area, the crews appeared to have it under control quickly.
