VISTA, Calif. – A ruptured water pipe formed a sink hole in the backyard of a North County home and flooded the homeowner’s garage early Friday , firefighters said.

The Vista Irrigation Department was working to fix the water pipe, which burst underneath the home owned by Vista resident Doris Dow just before 3 a.m. Water shot as high as four feet into the air and flooded Dow’s driveway, garage, and backyard, firefighters said.

A sinkhole measuring about ten feet by ten feet soon formed in her yard and undermined a portion of the driveway. Mud and sediment flooded Dow’s property and garage, as well.

The Vista Irrigation Department remained at the home Friday morning cleaning up the mess. It was unclear what caused the break.
