Wildfire burns 10 acres in East County

LAWSON VALLEY, Calif. -- A brush fire spread over back-country terrain near Jamul Thursday, blackening about 10 open acres and threatening some homes but causing no reported structural damage or injuries.

The blaze erupted for unknown reasons off the 3000 block of Lyons Creek Road in the Lawson Valley area about 11:30 a.m., according to Cal Fire.

Ground crews and personnel aboard firefighting aircraft had the spreading of the flames halted within 90 minutes, the state agency reported.

As of 5 p.m., the fire was 60 percent contained.

The cause was under investigation.
