SAN DIEGO — A building fire spread to brush in Alpine late Monday morning, forcing a freeway closure.
The blaze started as a structure fire around 11 a.m. on Viejas View Lane near Interstate 8, Cal Fire said. Flames spread from a propane tank to the building and then to brush, according to officials.
The blaze grew to about 3 acres before ground and air resources from Cleveland National Forest and Cal Fire were able to stop the fire from spreading any further.

Caltrans shut down all lanes of westbound I-8 at Willow Road due to the brush fire, but they quickly reopened all eastbound lanes. Both westbound lanes remained closed for about an hour. Authorities reopened one westbound lane around 1:30 p.m., but the right lane remained closed while crews put out hot spots.
No evacuations were ordered, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
