Veterans winter shelter opens

SAN DIEGO – The city of San Diego’s veterans emergency winter shelter opened Saturday in the Midway district.

Veterans Village of San Diego, located at 2801 Sports Arena Boulevard, has capacity for up to 150 homeless veterans, both men and women. The shelter offers bed, meals, case management, referrals to social services and assistance in finding permanent supportive housing.

It will remain open through April 1, 2015.

This is the 18th year the shelter will be operated by Veterans Village of San Diego. The San Diego Diego Housing Commission has administered the contracts for the city’s Homeless Shelters and Services Programs since 2010.
