OCEANSIDE, Calif. – A U.S. Marine arrived in Oceanside Sunday ending a 7-month cross country journey on horseback.

Matt Litrell served in the Marine Corps for four years and was deployed to Iraq twice. When he returned home after being deployed with the Marines, he was inspired to help others.

Littrell started his “Long Trail Home” journey by riding his two mustangs from Camp Lejeune in North Carolina to Camp Pendleton in San Diego.

“I am doing this to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund, an organization that provides assistance to wounded veterans who suffer from visible and invisible wounds suffered in combat,” Littrell posted on his Facebook page. “The need to help our veterans is great.”

As of Sunday, Littrell raised $80,000 for organization that helps injured service members.
