EL CAJON, Calif. — Two people were killed Sunday in a head-on crash near Jamul, authorities said.
The crash between a GMC Sonoma and a Jeep Wrangler was reported just before 11:50 p.m. Sunday on Lyons Valley Road west of Reservoir Drive, the California Highway Patrol said.
The GMC was driven by a 19-year-old man from Lemon Grove and had a 19-year-old woman sitting in the passenger seat, authorities said. The vehicle was heading east when it traveled into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into the Jeep, which was driven by an 18-year-old woman and had three teenage passengers.
The two people in the GMC were pronounced dead at the scene, California Highway Patrol Officer Tommy Doerr said. Their names were withheld pending family notification.
According to the CHP, the driver and three passengers in the Jeep did not suffer major injuries and were treated either right after the crash or after being taken to nearby hospitals.
CHP officers were still investigating the cause of the crash Monday morning.
