OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A woman who was hit and killed by an Amtrak train in Oceanside was seen lying across the tracks shortly beforehand and did not move when the engineer blasted the horn, a sheriff’s deputy said Wednesday.
The apparent suicide occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Broadway and Cassidy Street, according to sheriff’s Deputy Anthony Radicia. The victim was in her 30s, according to Oceanside police.
“According to witnesses, southbound Amtrak Train #790 struck a female pedestrian who was seen lying across the tracks at that location, ” Radicia said. “Witnesses said the female did not respond to the train’s horn warnings prior to being struck by the train.”
Although the incident occurred in Oceanside, it was investigated by the sheriff’s department’s Coaster/Railroad Enforcement Unit, which provides law enforcement services along the tracks.
