OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A kitchen fire on Thanksgiving Day caused about $50,000 damage to an Oceanside home, fire officials said Friday.

Food being cooked caught fire and spread to the kitchen cabinets and floor at the single-family home on Seasons Road near Maple Drive about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, according to Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Greg deAvila.

The homeowner was the only person there at the time, and was not injured, deAvila said.

Fire crews were able to confine the blaze to the kitchen and doused it in about 15 minutes, deAvila said.

The battalion chief said the fire and smoke caused about $30,000 in damage to the structure and $20,000 in content damage.
