Teen arrested in human smuggling attempt

PINE VALLEY, Calif. — A 19-year-old U.S. citizen who had three Mexican citizens stashed inside the trunk of his car was arrested Thursday night by U.S. Border Patrol.

Border Patrol agents at the Interstate 8 Pine Valley checkpoint stopped the man driving a gold Toyota Avalon. After a canine alert, agents searched the trunk and found three men packed closely together and sweating heavily.

All three men were determined to be Mexican citizens illegally present in the U.S.

The driver was arrested and faces smuggling charges. The vehicle was seized by U.S. Border Patrol.
