IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. – The SWAT standoff at an Imperial Beach home ended Sunday night when officers found the suspect dead.

Aurelio Perez, in his early 40s, killed himself while a SWAT unit and San Diego County Sheriff's deputies surrounded the house in the 500 block of Florence Street, authorities said. His body was found inside the home around 5:45 p.m.

Deputies fired tear gas canisters and a flash grenade in attempts to get Perez out an apartment just before 5 p.m.

The unidentified stabbing victim is the wife of Perez and was stabbed several times. She is at the hospital where she is expected to survive.

Homes next to the one where the suspect was hiding were evacuated, and Calla and Cypress avenues were closed, the Sheriff's Department said, adding other roads might be closed as well.
