SAN DIEGO – Two people were in jail Friday morning after stealing a car and leading police on a high-speed chase, San Diego police said.
Officers tried to pull the car over for running a red light just before 2 a.m. at Sports Arena Boulevard and Hancock Street in the Midway district. The driver took off and led police on a chase, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph. Police chased the car from eastbound Interstate 8 to Interstate 5 and finally southbound on Interstate 15.
Police laid down spike strips near Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa, which punctured three of the car’s tires. When the car came to a stop, police arrested the driver and a female passenger.
A drug pipe and an empty bottle of Jagermeister were found in the car. Police did not release the identities of the driver and passenger.
