The gunfire in the 12000 block of Avonette Court was reported shortly after 3 p.m., SDPD public-affairs Officer Matt Tortorella said. One person was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with non-life-threatening injuries.

CBS8 Sports Director Kyle Kraska was identified by his employer as the shooting victim.

Kraska’s girlfriend was on her way into the hospital around 4:30 p.m. when she said he was in surgery.

Police did not release any information regarding a suspect.

A neighbor told police that someone shot the rear window out of Kraska’s silver Mercedes-Benz, firing as many as 10 shots, then fled in an older-model white minivan.

Another neighbor told Fox 5 that she heard an argument between Kraska and a man who had been working on his house. Then, she heard several gunshots.

Kraska has been with the news station since 1999. The Emmy Award-winning broadcaster spent four years as morning and noon co-anchor before moving into the sports department 12 years ago.

The story will be updated as information becomes available.
