CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Southwestern College students and staff were ordered to shelter in place for about an hour and a half Monday afternoon after an armed teen was reported on campus.

The armed teen was believed to be a Bonita Vista High School student originally displayed the weapon to summer school students at that school, police said. At the sight of the gun, a number of students ran from the high school across the street to the community college.

Police ordered the lockdown at the college at about 1 p.m. By 2:30 p.m., they had determined that the student with the gun was not on the college campus and they lifted the lockdown.

Chula Vista Police notified Southwestern College Campus Police at the end of the day that the suspect had been identified and was  in custody. The weapon was a replica handgun, police said.
