Police were called to Harvest Park at 1150 East Palomar St. after a man who was running football drills with his two sons found 12 box cutter blades scattered around the grass field, police said. Some of the blades had been placed blade-up in the grass and other appeared to have been chopped into pieces by a lawn mower, police said.
The man called police because he suspected the blades had been deliberately placed at the park.
Police found eight whole blades and 2 broken blades during a grid search of the park. Investigators said they believe the blades were intentional placed to hurt people. On Thursday, park employees found more than a dozen more broken blade pieces scattered over a large area, police said.
The park remained closed Friday while park employees used metal detectors and magnets to finish searching the park.
Anyone with information on the incident was asked to call the Chula Vista Police Department Crimes of Violence Unite at 619-691-5202 or the departments anonymous tip line at 619-422-TIPS.
