SAN DIEGO - A sold-out crowd at Petco Park rocked out to Sir Paul McCartney Sunday night.

Classic Beatles tunes could be heard echoing beyond the park.

About 42,000 people filled Petco Park. Fans, young and old, traveled to San Diego just for the concert -- some coming from as close as Orange County and others as  far as Omaha, Neb.

Plenty of the folks at the concert said this is the first time they got to see Sir Paul perform live. Tickets for the "Out There" concert sold for anywhere from $80 to $800.

The last time the rock icon performed in a local concert venue was back in 1976 with his band Wings. Some in attendance Sunday night also recalled the only time the Beatles performed in San Diego back in 1965.

The concert began at 8p.m. but concertgoers began arriving as early as 1p.m. The event lasted about 3 hours.

Next on Sir Paul's "Out There" tour is Lubbock, Texas. That concert is scheduled for Oct. 2.
