SAN DIEGO — Morrissey, the British singer, says all is well after an apparently over-excited fan rushed onto stage during his show in San Diego Saturday night.
The singer was wrapping up his second encore on stage at San Diego Symphony Hall when several fans rushed the stage, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Morrissey disappeared backstage and did not return.
Video posted to Twitter showed the fracas unfold:
Though some video angles made it appear that a crowd member had taken a swing at Morrisey, hitting him in the face, the artist’s official Facebook account sought to put any concerns to rest Sunday.
“Nobody tried to punch M last night. Morrissey’s fans are not malicious. The fans were simply doing what they have been doing for almost 30 years. Trying anything they could do to jump onstage and touch him, or hug him,” Morrisey’s representative Peter Katsis explained.
“The fan in question was certainly more aggressive in reaching out for him than most, so security had to do their job and subdue the fan. That’s all it was. In the end no one was hurt, and no one was arrested.”
