Man shot in face near gas station

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — A 22-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday after being shot in the face by another man in National City, police said.

The shooting occurred just after 9 p.m. Wednesday near USA Gasoline in the 1600 block of East Plaza Boulevard, according to National City police, who said the victim was likely to survive.

The gunman fled on foot.

Witnesses reported that the shooting occurred during an altercation on a sidewalk about 30 to 40 yards from the gas station and that the man stumbled into the business’ parking lot afterward, according to U-T San Diego.
