SAN DIEGO – Authorities determined a human skull found in Panama is that of a missing Carlsbad woman who disappeared almost two years ago, the FBI said.

Yvonne Baldelli, Panama bodyIn late July, a resident of Panamanian came across a “green military style” backpack containing bones, a human skull and women’s clothing, FBI said.  The remains were tested and determined to be those of 41-year-old Yvonne Baldelli of Carlsbad.

Baldelli was last seen in November 2011 in Isla Carenero in Panama, authorities said.  Prior to her disappearance she was seen with her former boyfriend Brian Brimager, a retired Marine from Southern California, FBI said.  The couple had been living together in Panama.

Around the time of Baldelli’s disappearance, Brimager left Panama for Costa Rica, then returned to the United States.

Brimager was arrested on June 10 on charges of obstructing justice in connection to Baldelli’s disappearance.

Prosecutors said Brimager’s trip to Costa Rica was part of an elaborate plan to have it appear Baldelli left Panama for another man. He’s accused of using her ATM card there to make it look as though she was alive.
