BALTIMORE – A rape suspect crashed his car outside a Burger King restaurant before running inside and holding several people hostage, officials said.

The suspect who was being chased by police, crashed the car and then ran inside and took at least four people, including a 7-year-old girl, hostage at a gunpoint Sunday morning, Baltimore police said.

Several police officer units and the SWAT team surrounded the Baltimore-area fast-food restaurant for a couple hours.  Police negotiators worked to get the suspect to end the situation without violence, ABC News reported.

Police later tweeted that he was in custody and all hostages are okay.

The suspect’s name was not released.
