Shortly before 4 p.m. at Courtyard San Diego Old Town, a roughly 5-by 5-foot piece of drywall came off a wall in a flooded reception area, according to Joe Amador of San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The piece of drywall gave loose under the weight of water that was accumulating above. A drain pipe had gotten full of water because of the rain, let loose and broke through the drywall.
Water also flooded an underground parking garage at the hotel in the 2400 block of Jefferson Street, leaving four or five cars submerged. No rescues were needed, Amador told FOX 5.
No injuries were reported. Crews and hotel staff were working into the evening to clear water out of the building.
