DOWNEY, Calif. – Los Angeles police pursued a driver on surface streets in through cities southeast of downtown L.A. on Tuesday afternoon, ending the chase in an apparent standoff at a home in the Downey area.

The apparently aged black Land Rover SUV moved through the Vernon, Commerce and Downey areas just after 3:30 p.m., KTLA reported.

The SUV was in a residential neighborhood of Downey about 3:45 p.m., when it stopped in a driveway in a cul-de-sac on Pico Vista Road. The driver refused to exit the vehicle.

Multiple police vehicles followed the SUV, which did not appear to be traveling at high speed, aerial video showed.

The pursuit began in the Pico-Union neighborhood near downtown L.A. after plainclothes narcotics officers noticed drug activity, according to Officer Mike Lopez with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Sections.

Officers tried to pull over a “suspect” who got into the SUV, but the driver would not yield, Lopez said.
