Council member Scott Sherman teamed with San Diego Fire-Rescue to hold a community open house for residents to tour the bran new fire station.
The fire station, located at 9366 Friars Road, is the first to be built in District 7 in over 20 years and is the first permanent San Diego Fire station in Mission Valley.
"We’ve had a lot of growth that’s come in the last 20 years and we need the fire apparatus centrally located," said District 7 Councilman Scott Sherman.
The location houses both fire and Hazmat crews. The project was competed in November and cost nearly $12 million.

"Prior to the fire station being here, units had to come off the Mesas to support fire, emergency medical, that sort of thing," said Chief Brian Fennessy. "The temporary stations they fill their needs, but they should be temporary and not 5-year, 8-year, 10-year stations.”
