SAN DIEGO — A blogger who believes rape should be legalized has canceled an “International Meetup Day” where supporters had planned to gather in various locations throughout the world, including San Diego.
Daryush Valizadeh is known for his controversial books that advise men on the best methods to have sex with women and advocates that rape be made legal inside a private home.
Valizadeh, better known as Roosh V, runs the website Return of Kings that will host the event totaling 165 meetings in 43 countries, which were scheduled to take place Saturday night.
Two meeting locations were right here in the San Diego, according to a removed post on Valizadeh’s website. One was located at the “corner of 16th and Broadway, in parking lot of the Goodwill.” The other was set for The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch. Those interested were told to “meet in front of The Baked Bear Shop.”
Shane Stanger, founder of The Baked Bear Shop, contacted FOX 5 to say that his business has no association with Valizadeh or the planned meetup and has no idea why people were told to show up in front of the shop. He said that he had contacted police, and they will be present Saturday to make sure the business and property are safe.
“I’m disgusted that a group like this exists and wish (police) could arrest anyone who had an inclination to attend this meeting,” Stanger told FOX 5.
Hosts have been asked to wait at meeting points all around the world Saturday at 8 p.m. for men who are interested in attending. The men are instructed to ask the question, “Do you know where I can find a pet shop?” Members who are part of the group will then respond, “Yes it’s right here.”
Police in Des Moines posted a safety alert on Facebook urging women to stay away from the event and believe this may be potential to lure women to these various locations. They say “there is concern that this may be a ruse to commit rape.”
