SAN DIEGO – A prison escapee was recaptured in Tijuana after being at large for nearly two months, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday.

Baja California police apprehended Jesse Lozano Sr., who escaped the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s La Cima Camp in Julian on June 15.

Weeks of surveillance and detective work by the U.S. Marshals Service and sheriff’s department led authorities to Tijuana, sheriff’s Sgt. D. Perata said.

Lozano surrendered without incident, Perata said.

According to online news site Times of San Diego, Lozano was serving a three-year sentence after being convicted of drug possession in 2014.

Lozano was booked into the San Diego County Jail.
