SAN DIEGO – An elementary school principal kissed a pig Thursday after the Parent Teacher Association reached its parent involvement goal.

The students were surprised with “Dottie the Pig” during a school assembly.

Each year, the PTA at Fletcher Elementary School sets a goal for the number of parents they would like to get involved for the year. As an extra incentive, the PTA picks something for the principal to do if the goal is reached.

This school year, 180 parents have joined the Fletcher Elementary PTA, exceeding its goal of 100 parents.

“We’ve pretty much got a school-wide PTA group,” said Gina Camacho-McGrath, who has been the principal at Fletcher Elementary School for three years. “It’s not just about the numbers--it’s what we can do with the numbers and those families, hoping they can contribute to the school in their special way.”

Last year, McGrath dyed her hair pink for the cause.
