SAN DIEGO — The biggest fireworks show on the west coast is days away and preparations for the Big Bay Boom are in full swing.
The company in charge, Pyro Spectaculars, began working Tuesday and promise a show like never before.
A 20-man crew began work in Barrio Logan, installing 14,000 pounds of explosives into mortars.
“Quality is going to be amazingly different for this year,” said Sam Brugemma, show producer. “We bring in the best the manufacturers make.”
The company outsourced material from around the world, including China, Portugal, Japan and Brazil.
The theme for this year is “We the People,” inspired by the constitution. The design will feature red, white and blue lights cued to a symphony of classic patriotic tunes.
“The look is going to be unique to the all of the audience,” Brugemma said.
The barges, which carry several thousand pounds of explosives each, will be set up at four locations including Seaport Village, Embarcadero, Shelter Island and Harbor Island.
