SAN DIEGO — With 28 days until the election, the Registrar of Voters in San Diego County wants to reassure voters about the integrity of mail ballots.

Registrar of Voters Michael Vu said he has been doing public outreach since August, holding virtual town halls to get everyone ready to vote in the 2020 presidential election.

The county opened 125 locations Tuesday where voters can start dropping off their mail ballots.  Each location will be fully staffed by paid poll workers.

“Because of the pandemic, now we need double, more than double, the amount of locations over quadruple the amount of time,” Vu said. “Poll workers are now paid an hourly wage, no longer volunteers because it’s a 9-day commitment.”

If some are still wary of sending their ballot by mail, all 36 public libraries in the county are now accepting mail ballots. They will be delivered to the Registrar of Voters by hand and counted on Election Day, just like ballots that arrive by mail.

Voters can take their ballots to any San Diego Public Library between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Election Day, Nov. 3, drop-off hours will be extended to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
