Police seek hit-and-run driver that killed pedestrian in Escondido

fatal-crash-grp ESCONDIDO – Police are seeking the driver of a vehicle that allegedly struck a pedestrian, who later died.

Escondido Police were notified at 6:45 a.m. of a male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in the area of 200 West 10th Avenue east of South Escondido Boulevard, Escondido Police Lt. Neil Griffin said.

“Officers arrived and found a Hispanic male adult lying in the roadway unconscious,” Griffin said.

Griffin said the victim was immediately transported to Palomar Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Police described the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored SUV, possibly a 1990’s Isuzu Trooper. 

The suspect vehicle was last observed heading eastbound on 10th Avenue, Griffen said.

Witnesses reported that the victim had been in the company of a female adult prior to the collision, according to Griffin. “She was not present when the officers arrived,”  Griffin said.
