SAN DIEGO — A suspected gang shooting in City Heights left a 36- year-old man seriously wounded Friday, authorities reported.
The victim was sitting on the roadside in the 4000 block of Van Dyke Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. when a long-haired man in a blue baseball cap and denim shorts approached, pulled a pistol and shot him five times, according to San Diego police.
Following the gunfire, the assailant, who appeared to be in his 30s, got into a nearby blue pickup truck and drove off to the north, Officer Steve Bourasa said.
Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of wounds that were not considered life-threatening.
The unidentified assailant was described as a roughly 5-foot-10-inch Latino with black hair. The vehicle in which he fled was believed to be a late- 1990’s to early-2000s Ford Ranger, Bourasa said.
Gang-unit detectives were called in to investigate the shooting.
