Man found shot to death in street near Mission Valley

SAN DIEGO —  A homicide investigation was underway officials discovered a man shot to death in San Diego’s Grantville neighborhood Tuesday morning.

Officers with San Diego police were called to the intersection of Vandever Avenue and Holabird Street outside the Village Terrace apartment complex around 3 a.m. after receiving several calls regarding screaming and gunshots heard in the area.

Arriving officers discovered a man shot to death on the road outside the apartment building. Firefighters with San Diego Fire-Rescue attempted to revive the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:08 a.m.

Witnesses were able to provide a description of the gunman. He was described as a white male, around 5 feet 6 inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white logo on the front, black pants and last seen wearing a backpack.  Witnesses saw the suspect running westbound toward Mission Gorge Road.

A man matching the description was detained and transported to San Diego Police headquarters.

It was not immediately known if he was involved in the shooting.

The intersection at Vandever Avenue and Holabird Street were closed while authorities investigated the shooting.

The victim’s identity was not immediately available. He was described as a Hispanic male in his 30s.
