SAN DIEGO — A man was wounded Monday afternoon after he allegedly pulled a gun and exchanged fire with officers Monday during a foot chase in Logan Heights.

The shooting in the 3300 block of National Avenue took place shortly before 3:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

Medics took the suspect, a man about 30 years old, to a hospital for treatment of injuries that are considered non-life-threatening, a detective told reporters at the scene.

The man, who was suspected of a drug-related offense, was known to officers. His name was not immediately released. No other injuries were reported.

Two officers, one a 20-year veteran and one who has been on the force for a year and a half, opened fire, police said.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to the SDPD.

Police shut down four blocks of the east-west street on which the shooting occurred to allow for investigation.
