SAN DIEGO – A San Diego police officer was in the hospital Thursday night after getting hurt while running after a suspect in Normal Heights, police said.

A customer flagged down police after two men caused a disturbance at the 7-Eleven near Adams Avenue and Hawley Boulevard around 10 p.m. One of the men took off when police attempted to talk with him.

The officer then gave chase and hurt her lower leg in the process. The other suspect in the 7-Eleven was cooperative with police.

Police caught up to the suspect across the street and arrested him. The injured officer was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where several officers visited her later in the evening. She is expected to be okay.

The suspect she was chasing faces charges of resisting arrest.
