DOWNEY, Calif. – A police officer was found fatally shot in the Downey Police Department’s parking lot early Thursday morning, police officials said.
Two men ran toward Officer Ricardo Galvez as he was sitting in his personal car at about 11:08 p.m. Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported. The men opend fire on Galvez, who died from his wounds. The two gunman then got into a vehicle and drove off, investigators said.
A Downey patrol officer driving in the area heard the shooting and followed the suspected getaway car to Montebello, where the suspects ditched the vehicle and ran. Police arrested three people and were searching for another Thursday morning.
“It appears that this officer was targeted,” L.A. Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina, told the Times. “It doesn’t look like it was random.”
