Man hacks at car with machete while owner and dog cower inside

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego police were searching for a man who attacked another man and his dog with a machete late Sunday night in the Banker's Hill neighborhood.

When the victim knocked on the door of an acquaintance's apartment in the 2200 block of Brant Street shortly before 10 p.m., a man answered wielding a black machete and demanded that  he leave. The man chased the victim and his dog to his silver Pontiac Grand Am and proceeded to smash the back window, slashed his tire and damage the body of the car, police said

TThe victim and his dog were not injured in the attack.

Police arrived a short time later and the victim told them he  believed the attacker had gone back into the house he came from. Officers tried to contact residents inside the home but were unsuccessful. When they eventually entered the home, the suspect was not inside.
