SAN DIEGO — Homicide detectives were investigating a fatal shooting in the College Area Thursday morning.

Police received reports of a shooting in the 6300 block of Alvarado Road near the Alvarado Hospital and trolley station just before 6:20 a.m. When they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body on the sidewalk in front of an apartment complex. The victim, identified as 39-year old Ishi Hampton, was taken to the hospital where he died.

Bardia Moojadi, an SDSU student, lives at the apartment complex and woke up to the sound of a gunshot.

“So many kids live here that things like this should not happen,” Moojadi told FOX 5.

Officers are looking for at least two suspects ranging in age from teenagers to men in their mid-thirties. They are being described as black men wearing hooded sweatshirts. They were last seen running southbound on Reservoir Drive.

“Our detectives are in the process of obtaining witness statements, video footage and surveillance,” Lt. Chris Tivanian told FOX 5.  “If anyone has additional information, we’d like them to call the San Diego Police Department.”

Officers shut down Alvarado Road between Alvarado Court and Reservoir Drive to investigate the the shooting. The road reopened around noon.

The investigation is ongoing.
