SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- The two pit bulls that entered a corral in San Marcos, where they attacked and killed a horse, have been found.

The dogs were located Saturday a short distance away by someone who called the Humane Society, which took the pit bulls to an animal hospital. The pit bulls were bloodied and appeared to be injured.

The hospital then released the dogs to the owners.

But when investigators came by the house where the dogs lived, the owners reportedly said the animals had gotten away again.

While pursuing an anonymous tip Wednesday, investigators found the dogs on a property in Valley Center.

An owner of the horse was happy the dogs were located and that the neighborhood could relax a bit.

"Lots of people walk their dogs every day and there's a school right behind us,” Michelle Barclay said. “I’m sure people worried about their children. I’m sure they’ll sleep easier tonight knowing the dogs won’t harm anyone else.”

While Barclay is happy the dogs have been captured, she does not want the dogs euthanized, which the Humane Society is planning to do in the coming days.

The Humane Society told FOX 5 the owners of the dogs have relinquished control and have given permission to put down the dogs.
